The Seen is a multi-discipline art gallery founded by photographers William Bibb and Jill Alikonis. It occupies the West Ward of the original Scottish Rite Children’s Hospital in Oakhurst Village, a neighborhood in the City of Decatur. The building is a 1919 Georgian Revival designed by noted architect Neel Reid. (Scottish Rite history) The 2,300 square foot space showcases the work of over 40 artists, and includes both two and three dimensional work. The media on display includes painting, pottery, photography, jewelry, textiles, etchings, woodworking, and hand blown glass. Separated into seven rooms, the different areas allow for a main exhibition to take center stage while the work of represented artists is displayed in one of the other rooms. The Seen changes out artwork frequently; new exhibitions open every four to five weeks. There are also other gallery events, such as artist receptions and demonstrations throughout the year. (Happenings) Represented artists change out their work frequently, creating a fresh dynamic for each visit to the gallery. |
